Frequently asked questions
How does SPOT work?
SPOT provides individual storage spaces in metal containers. The customer rents a clearly identified container or storage space, receives access instructions and stores their own belongings.
SPOT provides the space, access system and site administration, without inventorying the goods and without taking custody of the contents of the container.
Where is the location?
The location is displayed during the booking process, before you choose the container. You can see the exact location under the map.
After booking, the location can also be accessed from the details section of your reservation. There you will find the information needed to reach your container.
You can open the location directly in Google Maps or use what3words, if these details are displayed on the reservation page.
How do I enter the location?
After your booking is confirmed, you will receive access instructions. These may include:
- PIN code for the gate;
- PIN code for the key box;
- container number;
- opening and closing instructions.
Please do not share the access codes with other people. If you give someone else access, you are responsible for that person's actions on the site and inside the container.
Never leave the container doors open
The container doors must be closed after each use. Never leave the container open and unattended.
If rain, wind, dust or other weather conditions enter the container, they may damage the container, the floor, the locking system or the stored goods.
Cleaning, repair or remediation costs caused by leaving the doors open may be added to the customer's account and/or deducted from the deposit.
How do I use the container?
The standard process is:
- enter the location using the access code;
- go to your assigned container;
- open the PIN key box;
- take the key from the PIN key box;
- unlock the padlock;
- open the container doors carefully;
- store or collect your goods;
- close the doors properly;
- put the padlock back on;
- take the key with you;
- make sure the gate is closed when you leave.
The PIN key box is used for the initial handover of the key and for returning the key at the end of the rental period.
Can I take the key with me?
Yes. You must take the key with you during the rental period.
The PIN key boxes are used only for the initial handover of the key and, at the end, for returning the key. Once you have goods inside the container, the padlock key must stay with you.
At the end of the rental period, you must return the key to the PIN key box, using the original PIN assigned to the container.
If, when you leave, the original padlock is not installed, the key is not returned to the PIN key box or the PIN is not the original assigned PIN, additional costs may apply for padlock replacement, inspection, intervention or access reset.
Can I add my own padlocks?
Yes, you may add your own padlocks during the rental period, as long as you do not modify the container and do not change the appearance of the location.
Chains on the door, special locking systems, holes, welds, additional fixtures or any other modifications to the container are not allowed.
At the end of the rental period, the container must be returned with the original padlock installed, and the original key must be placed back in the PIN key box.
Can I change the padlock?
During the rental period, you may use your own padlock, as long as you keep the original padlock and reinstall it at the end.
You are not allowed to modify the container, add chains, special locking systems, fixtures, holes, welds or any element that changes the appearance of the location or the container.
When handing back the container, the original padlock must be installed and the original key must be returned to the PIN key box.
Can I come at any time?
The access hours are the ones stated in the contract, on the website or in the confirmation message. Some locations may have extended access, but access is allowed only within the permitted time interval.
Access outside the permitted hours may be considered improper use of the location.
Can I come with other people?
You may come with people who help you transport your goods, but they must follow the site rules. You remain responsible for the people who enter with you.
We do not recommend access for children, vulnerable people or people who do not have a clear role in loading or unloading.
Can I enter the location by car?
Yes, if the location allows vehicle access. The vehicle may only be used for loading or unloading.
The vehicle must be stopped in a way that does not block the gate, other customers, traffic lanes or other containers.
Can I leave my car parked at the location?
No. The SPOT location is not a car park.
You may enter with your car only for loading or unloading. Once you have finished, the car must be removed from the location.
Any car found parked at the location without active loading or unloading may be towed. The towing company details can be obtained by sending an email to SPOT.
Towing, storage, administration or other related costs may be charged to the customer, deducted from the deposit or invoiced separately.
What can I store?
You may store ordinary personal goods, such as:
- furniture;
- boxes;
- clothes;
- personal equipment;
- seasonal items;
- bicycles;
- personal tools;
- decorations;
- luggage;
- household items.
The goods must be legal, clean, dry and properly packed.
What am I not allowed to store?
The following categories are prohibited:
- flammable, explosive, toxic, radioactive or dangerous substances;
- fuel, gas cylinders, fireworks, dangerous paints or unstable chemicals;
- weapons, ammunition or illegal materials;
- drugs, prohibited products or goods obtained through criminal activity;
- perishable food or products that may attract pests;
- animals, plants or living organisms;
- cash, jewellery, precious metals, valuable documents or very valuable objects;
- waste, rubbish, leaking liquids or objects that produce odour;
- defective batteries, damaged accumulators or equipment with fire risk;
- any goods whose storage violates the law or SPOT rules.
Are my goods insured?
Goods stored by the customer are not automatically insured by SPOT, unless this is expressly stated in the contract or in a separate service.
The customer is responsible for insuring their own goods if they want protection against theft, fire, humidity, damage or other risks.
Does SPOT check what I have inside the container?
No. SPOT does not inventory the goods and does not normally check the contents of the container.
SPOT may intervene only in special situations, such as emergency, fire risk, suspicious smell, leaks, legal request from authorities, non-payment or breach of the usage rules.
Is the container monitored by video?
The location may be monitored by video in common areas and around the perimeter. Cameras are not installed inside the containers.
Video surveillance is used for general site security and does not represent an individual security service for each customer's goods.
Is there electricity inside the container?
The container may have electricity only for the interior lighting provided by SPOT.
The customer does not have access to a socket and is not allowed to use electricity for appliances, tools, chargers, extension cords, heaters, fridges or any other personal equipment.
Can I modify the electrical installation?
No. It is strictly forbidden to modify, repair, dismantle, extend or adapt cables, light fittings, junction boxes, fuses, connections or any other electrical element inside the container or at the location.
Any unauthorised intervention on the electrical installation may lead to access suspension, contract termination and payment of the resulting damages.
Can I use an extension cord or charger?
No, unless you have written approval from SPOT. The electricity inside the container is intended only for the lighting installed by SPOT.
Do not connect appliances, tools, batteries, chargers, fridges, heaters or any other electrical consumers.
Can I work inside the container?
No. The container is intended only for storing goods.
It is not permitted to live, work, carry out commercial activities, produce goods, repair items or use the container as a workshop.
Can I store goods directly on the floor?
You can, but we do not recommend storing sensitive items directly on the floor.
For cardboard boxes, textiles, furniture, mattresses, electronics, documents, wooden items or any goods that may absorb humidity, we recommend using pallets, plastic boxes, foil, covers or other protective materials.
The container is a metal space, and temperature and humidity may vary depending on the weather.
What should I do if the container door is hard to open?
Some container doors may be harder to open than a normal door. Do not force the door and do not hit the locking system.
Check the following:
- the padlock is fully unlocked;
- the right-hand door opens first;
- the locking bars must be rotated at the same time;
- the handles must be pulled correctly, according to the instructions on the door;
- the door should not be pulled from only one point if the bars are not fully released;
- do not stand directly in front of the doors when opening them;
- if it is windy, open carefully and keep the door under control at all times.
Each door has opening instructions. Follow the steps shown there.
If the door seems blocked, contact SPOT before forcing the system. Unauthorised intervention or damage caused by forcing the door may be charged.
In what order do the doors open?
The right-hand door opens first.
After the padlock is removed, rotate the locking bars on the right-hand door at the same time, according to the instructions on the door. Once the right-hand door is fully released, you may open the left-hand door.
When closing, follow the steps in reverse order, making sure the doors are fully closed and the padlock is correctly installed.
What should I do if I notice a problem with the container?
Notify SPOT as soon as possible if you notice:
- blocked door;
- defective padlock;
- leaks;
- damage;
- suspicious smell;
- exposed cables;
- lighting problem;
- signs of vandalism;
- unauthorised access;
- any risk to people or goods.
Do not try to repair the container, padlock, electrical installation or access system yourself.
What should I do if it rains or is windy?
Open the doors carefully. Container doors are heavy and may be moved suddenly by the wind. They may hit people, cars, goods or other nearby objects.
Do not stand in the movement area of the doors and do not leave the doors open unattended.
In strong wind, storms, heavy rain or other severe weather, do not use the container doors. Wait until the weather allows safe use.
SPOT cannot be held liable for accidents, damage or losses caused by improper use of the doors, lack of care or use of the container in dangerous weather conditions.
How is payment made?
Payment is made according to the instructions received at booking or according to the contract. Payment may be monthly, in advance, by bank transfer, card or another payment method accepted by SPOT.
The reservation becomes active after payment is confirmed, unless otherwise agreed.
Do I receive an invoice?
Yes. The invoice is sent automatically to the email address used for the booking on the platform.
If you cannot find it in your inbox, please also check your Spam / Junk folder.
What happens if I am late with payment?
If payment is late, SPOT may send notifications, apply penalties according to the contract and suspend access after the period stated in the contract.
If the delay continues, the contract may be terminated, and the customer will have to empty the container and pay the outstanding amounts.
Can I cancel the booking?
Cancellation is made according to the conditions communicated at booking and according to the contract.
If the booking or contract was made online, specific withdrawal rules may apply, depending on when the service starts.
How do I end the contract?
To end the contract, you must notify SPOT according to the notice period stated in the contract. At the end, the container must be completely emptied, cleaned and returned in good condition.
If goods, dirt, damage or waste remain at handover, cleaning, removal or repair costs may be deducted from the deposit or invoiced separately.
What should I do if I forget the PIN code?
The PIN code is displayed on the booking page of each container.
Log into your account, open the active booking and check the container details.
If you changed the PIN, it is your responsibility to set it back to the original PIN assigned to the container. At the end of the rental period, the PIN key box must work with the original PIN.
What should I do if I lose the key?
Notify SPOT immediately. Depending on the situation, the padlock may need to be replaced, the access system may need to be changed or the container may need to be checked.
Costs may be charged to the customer if the loss is attributable to the customer.
What should I do if I block the padlock?
Do not force the padlock and do not try to cut it. Contact SPOT.
Unauthorised intervention on the padlock or doors may be considered damage and may be charged.
Can I stick labels, drill holes, paint or modify the container?
No. It is not permitted to drill, paint, permanently stick items, modify, perforate or damage the container.
Any unauthorised modification may be treated as damage and may be charged.
Can I leave rubbish inside the container?
No. The container must be used for storage, not for waste disposal.
At the end, the container must be returned completely empty and clean.
Cleaning, waste removal or sanitation costs may be charged to the customer.
